Bow Tie

I wanted to share with you the steps on how our Mommy made Bow Ties out of felt.

You might have seen Murphy & Stanley and Reilly & Denny wearing the ties. (They were early birthday presents since Murphy & Stanley and Reilly & Denny's Mom  share the same birthday as our Mommy coming up next week.)

Step 1 - Cut first, Measure twice?   Mommy didn't measure anything and just cut the felt however she wanted to.    As an afterthought, she decided to hold up a ruler to show somewhat of the dimensions.

Step 2 - Mommy decided to make it a two-tone tie, so she hot glued a smaller black piece of felt to the pink piece of felt.  

Step 3 - Pinch the top and bottom towards each other.  Grab the hot glue gun and glue a dab in 2 spots, so it holds it's shape.  So, there is glue holding the pink top to the center of the tie.  And there is glue holding the bottom of the tie to the center section.  

Step 4 - Please listen to your humans making ouching sounds by accidentally touching the hot glue to their thumb and index finger during this step.

Step 5 - On the back of the tie, glue 1 dab in the center to hold it's shape.

Step 6 - Cut some elastic.  We made it about 24 inches in length so it could go around the dog's neck and the peeps could tie it however long they wanted to.    

I guess you could make the elastic shorter and just tie it to the dog's collar if you wanted to.

Step 7 - Position the center of the elastic on the center back of the tie and glue it down.   Then wrap a small strip of felt around the tie, as you hot glue it together.

Step 8 -- As you can see, Mommy messed up on this sample -- she ended the small strip of pink in the front of the tie -- it looks horrible.  So, don't end the loop in the front like this when you are gluing it together.
