The roof is pawsome! Grandma update!

Benji and I worked hard making sure our new roof was installed. This is our picture when it was all done!






Below is the video from me supervising the installation of the new roof. They installed it a couple of weeks ago -- butt it took Mommy forever to transfer the pictures to the computer. I was the Roofing Foreman. Mommy was at work most of the day when they installed most of the roof, butt Grandma was home with us dogs while the roofers were working on the house. When Mommy called to ask Grandma how us dogs were doing, Grandma said that I was good at barking orders and that we even took a nap at one point. (I said --- WHAT!!! I didn't take a nap -- that sounds so girly! We took UNION BREAKS, they aren't called naps!)

Oh, and speaking of Grandma, she had the surgery yesterday to replace the valve in her heart. She made it thru the surgery and is taking things slowly. She wanted Mommy to tell everyone thanks for praying for her. Mommy wanted to thank all the dogs/cats who were keeping their paws crossed too!

Benji and I tried to convince Mommy to sneak us into the hospital to see Grandma, butt, Benji's tail kept sticking out from under Mommy's niece's coat when we did the experiment in the house to pretend like Mommy's niece was going to sneak us in. So, we can't go to see Grandma in the hospital. (We figured if Benji's tail was sticking out from under the coat -- I definitely wouldn't fit under the coat either.)

Can't lie to a Sheltie and get away with it!

Sorry, no pictures or video for this blog post today. Just wanted to tell you it snowed a little yesterday - about an inch! Benji and I have been having tons of fun in the snow. Since it's the weekend, we can get Mommy to let us out practically every 5 minutes. We don't want to come in from the snow -- so Mommy has been lying to us to get us in. (Mommy is not the lying type -- so we have been falling for her lies every time.)

Finally enough lies were enough -- she acted like we had visitors in the house saying, "Hi, how are you, it's so nice of you to come visit us..." We have been thinking people were actually in the house and came in running from the snow to go in the house. Once we were in, she closed the door behind us , and we realized no visitors were in the house.

So, I didn't like Mommy lying anymore to us pretending like we had company (especially to me, since I'm head of the house), so, once she did it the last time -- and she turned to close the door behind us -- I jumped up and smacked Mommy on the butt with my two front paws.

She was laughing hysterically about me smacking her in the butt!

I gave her this look too -- don't you think you can lie to a Sheltie and think you can get away with it!

PS The roof is done -- I have a video of me being the foreman, Mommy hopes to post it later in the week or next weekend. Also, Grandma's heart surgery is this week -- so things are a bit busy. Keep your paws crossed for Grandma! Thanks!

We won a prize from Finn's Contest!

We entered a contest to guess where Finn the Golden Retriever's Momma works. We won the contest. We got presents in the mail. It came super fast. We were so excited. We got it on video, the video is a little blurry, butt that's ok. The video is below! (By the way, apparently Mommy can't videotape and read a letter with dog's handwriting at the same time -- what's wrong with that Mommy of ours! Got to teach her to multi-task better!)

Here we are with our stuff: treats, mushroom stuffie, giant cookie, and a letter. There are 2 bags of dog treats, only 1 is pictured for some reason -- maybe Benji hid the other bag for the photos -- he's still a little mad at me from the last post, where I said I was switching him to generic puppy food. (I thought I overheard Mommy tell Benji she was going to continue to buy him his regular puppy food -- I got to keep my eye on Mommy to make sure she sticks to the budget to pay off the roof!)

Working Stiffs -- Our Entry in Mango's Contest

Our Blog Friend, Mango, is having a contest, the Mango Minster Contest. His official website is http://mangominster.blogspot.com .

The category we want to enter for the contest is the "Working Stiffs" Category. We had to do a blog post explaining why we wanted to enter this particular category, so here it goes...

First, let me explain, my name is Lassiter Chase (aka Lassie - butt that nickname sounds girly.) I'm a boy and I am the Head of the House. Now, let me explain. Mommy isn't married, so I am the eldest male living in the house, so that makes me Head of House. Here is a picture of me signing my official Head of House document.






The biggest project that we have going on at the house is that we need a new roof because ours is leaking. So, I had to choose the color tile for the roof. I narrowed it down to Barkwood and Shakewood, because dog's bark and shake too, so those names sounded nice. Butt in the end, I selected the color "Shakewood" because I figured after I get a bath, I "shake" all the water off me before I do zoomies to dry off. So, I'm hoping the new shingles for the roof will "shake" all the water off the "wood" on the house - get it -- "Shakewood". (If our house starts doing zoomies on the lawn after it rains -- then we are in deep trouble!)


The "Shakewood" color is the tan colored one in the 3rd column, 3rd row.


Now a new roof costs lots of money paper. So, everyone in the family, Mommy, Grandma and my little brother Benjamin (aka Benji) all have to make sacrifices to save up for the roof.

So, I'm the Chief Financial Officer in the family, and I had to make a budget so we can come up with the money paper for the roof.



Chart A = This chart above is our current Food budget. The first column represents the part of the food budget allocated to me (Lassie). As you can see, 35% of the food budget goes to my premium dog food (only the best food for me.) The second column is Benji's food budget, he has 35% as well, boy his puppy food is expensive. The third column represents Mommy and Grandma's food consumption at 30%. (Yes, Mommy makes sure Benji's and my needs come first, so that's why the human's food budget is less.)


Chart B = This is the revised budget I came up with so we can pay for the roof. I did a cost savings analysis which shows my (Lassie's) food stays the same at 35%. However, I came up with significant savings if we switch Benji to generic puppy food which will only cost 15% of the food budget. And Mommy and Grandma have to eat from the dollar menu for dinner -- so they only get 10% of the budget. So, in total - that saves 40% of the money paper that we can put towards the new roof. (Boy was Benji crying after I explained the new budget to him.) Some of you clever dogs might be asking -- why did the money allocated to Lassie's new Budget not change -- why is he still getting 35% -- well, that's because I'm the Head of the House, that's why!


We ran into a slight delay -- it snowed during the week. So, they aren't going to be putting the new roof on until next week. (By the way, this is Benji's first time in snow -- it snowed around Halloween, but Benji had an eye infection, and Mommy didn't let him out for Halloween. Butt, Benji sure liked the snow we had this week. I kinda have snow on my nose, because I was trying to teach Benji what snow is.)


So, I'm the Roofing Foreman during the roofing project. Here I am getting a head start assessing the water damage by the attic steps in the house. Usually I don't like wearing hats -- butt I smiled with pride for this photo.


Benji and I do other things around the house too. Here is a picture of us on a walk protecting Mommy from any dangers that might come her way!


Here is a picture from September when I power washed the walkway for Mommy. I was surprised I could fit my full name on the walkway!




Being the eldest male-- I have to make sure to teach Benji the ropes too. Here is a picture of Benji leaving the toilet seat up in the bathroom! Benji still has lots to learn, he is only 5 months old.


Benji and I aren't "working stiffs" all the time either. We love the Phillies. Here we are in our Phillies gear. (I think my fellow blog readers know that my middle name "Chase" comes from the baseball player "Chase Utley", that's Mommy's favorite player. And in real life Chase Utley has a son named "Benjamin". That's cool.)


And of course, when we aren't "Working stiffs" we like to kick our feet up and relax. This is a picture of us on Thanksgiving -- Boy did we eat a lot!

It's 2012

Happy 2012. We woke up just before midnight to ring in the New Year. We stayed up for about 10 minutes and went back to bed right after the neighbors had about 5 fireworks. They were pawsome.

We went over Mommy's sisters house for the New Year. We saw all their Christmas deorations. They don't have any Lassie or Benji Outdoor Christmas signs so we decided to water all of their bushes several times to add our personal touch to their outdoor display. Above is our picture with Mommy.

I spent the rest of the New Year trying to decide what color shingles to pick for our roof. They are supposed to replace it on Friday if it doesn't rain. I am thinking of the colors Barkwood or Shakewood since they are kinda like things dogs do bark and shake.Since I'm the head of the house it's my job to make important decisions like this.
